On Breakfast and Blogging

First There Was the Selfie, Then The Shelfie And Now May We Propose THE BREAKIE? Yes, #Breakie

It's not only the most important meal of the day, but now it's also a way to engage your audience.

Here it is. We're putting ourselves out there by showing you what our CEO eats for breakfast. Here is a snapshot of the most important meal of the day of our superstar CEO, Suki Lee. Call this photo a #breakie. It's kind of like a #selfie. She has here:

  • A handful of raspberries
  • A nice and colourful salad
  • A delicious fritatta
  • Coffee and OJ

What can we infer from all of this? We're going to presume that Lee is somewhat health-conscious, but not overly restrictive in that egg-whites-only kind of way. She has a touch of whimsy as evidenced by her choice of something so mutli-syllabic as a fri-ta-ta before noon. We might also guess that she has travelled freqeuently to Latin America or somewhere else where the climate is warm and the dishware is vibrant.

Why are we telling you this bit of information that is both fascinating and kind of banal all at once? It's because we wrote a blog post last week about the site Academic Breakfast, which featured a whole bunch of breakfast photos from university researchers. They talked about their field of research along with the specifics of their morning meal and the results were revealing.

We used Academic Breakfast as an illustration of how blogging can add personality to your inbound marketing mix. We since discovered that our post about Academic Breakfast was one of our most popular blogs so far, in terms of numbers of views. Now, we don't advocate for obsessive analytics. That is to say, a high number of views does not always correspond to a high level of engagement. Better metrics to look at are the number of comments or shares.

However, we can't help but feel a twinge of excitement that the subject of blogging and breakfast is popular and somehow inspiring enough to make us want to take a camera to our morning meal. A blog such as Academic Breakfast is engaging and highly appealling in this age of visual culture

So, there it is: Breakfast photography. Give it a try. Send it viral! Tag it #breakie or even #breakie #selfie (#BreakieSelfie?) and give a nod to the agency via @inboxtweets while you're at it.
