How to Write a Blog Post Using Curated Content

Need some help with your content marketing? That’s where content curation can come in. Content curation allows you to present content in a meaningful and organized way around a specific theme. It’s what we do on social media when we share articles that we hope our audience will enjoy. Any content that you feel compelled to share on social media could instead be used as content for a curated blog post.

The benefit of curating content on your blog is that you share your blog post instead of sharing an article directly. For inbound marketing, that means driving valuable traffic to your website instead of someone else's, and gives you the opportunity to convert that traffic into customers. It’s a powerful way of doing content marketing and can help you create an endless amount of content that is truly valuable to your audience.

Below are strategies you can use when writing a curated post:

1. Use Content that Answers Your Buyer Personas' Questions

Your buyer personas are out there searching for you. By blogging regularly using curated content, you make it easier for them to find you. Always know which of your buyer personas your curated content is speaking to. By creating an interesting post, you demonstrate that you have something to say about the topic.

2. Know Your Purpose

You always need to make a topic specific for your audience, and in a context that they can understand. Once you find content that is compelling enough for your audience, make sure that you can answer these questions:

  • Why does my audience need to know this?
  • How does this information influence them?
  • How can I make this topic interesting for them?
  • What implications does the topic have on the way my buyer personas make decisions, or do business (with me)?

3. Be an Authority

Content curation is how the latest news or viral video spreads. Media outlets use content curation to drive traffic to their websites all the time. Make yourself an authority on a topic by presenting the most meaningful information. By being the definitive source on the content you blog about, you reinforce your position as a thought leader.

4. Provide Value

The best curated articles don’t read like curated articles, but like original articles that source other content. One way to make a curated blog post read more like an original is to use more than one source article, and present what else is being reported on the topic. Is there another angle you can cover? An opposing side that deserves some attention? A unique idea on how to solve the issue or address the topic? Include some added value through citations, and your blog post will not only report on the topic, but be more meaningful to your audience.
